A day of art on historic Chestnut Street

The Phillips family collected art from a number of local artists including Herman Dudley Murphy, George Wainwright Harvey, and John Appleton Brown in their years at 34 Chestnut Street. Join the Phillips House staff for a special tour that will highlight the art and artists behind these exceptional works on Sunday, November 10, 2013 from 10:00-11:00 a.m.

Following the museum tour, Jim McAllister of Derby Square Tours will be offering a special art tour of Chestnut Street from 11:30-12:30. The walk leaves from the Phillips House and will focus artists and musicians who have lived and worked on Salem's historic Chestnut Street through the centuries, including painters Frank W. Benson and Phillip Little.

Purchased separately, each tour will be $10 for Historic New England members and $15 for the general public. Registration is available at www.historicnewengland.org or by calling 978-744-0440. For those interested in attending both programs, the cost will be $15 for Historic New England members and $25 for the general public. Combination tours can only be purchased by calling.

In 2013, visitors are invited to join Historic New England for a series of walking tours, lectures, and special museum tours that will focus on the role of the variety of people who impacted everyday life at our historic properties.
