The 95th Academy Awards – also known as the Oscars –  take place on March 12, 2023  in a ceremony held by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, California.

The Massachusetts Film Office has compiled a quick sketch of Oscar nominees with Massachusetts connections.

John Williams, the beloved maestro of the Boston Pops Orchestra from 1980 to 1993, is nominated for Best Original Score, THE FABELMANS. With five Academy Awards and 52 Oscar nominations, Williams is the Academy’s most-nominated living person.

Laura Poitras produced, directed and shot ALL THE BEAUTY AND THE BLOODSHED, which is nominated for Best Feature Documentary. Poitras was born in Boston, and the film focuses on filmmaker/activist Nan Goldin, who grew up in Swampscott and Lexington.

BLACK PANTHER: WAKANDA FOREVER is nominated for 5 Oscars, including Visual Effects.  Many of the key scenes in the film were shot in Boston and Cambridge.

Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert, nominated as Co-Directors for EVERYTHING EVERYWHERE ALL AT ONCE. a/k/a “The Daniels” –  Kwan and Scheinert are both Emerson College graduates.
