This month, Plymouth 400, Inc is launching an #IlluminateNOW campaign that encourages people to shine light on all the positive things happening in their communities during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Since 2009, the Massachusetts-based nonprofit has led the planning and execution of programs and events commemorating the 400th anniversary of the Mayflower voyage and the founding of Plymouth Colony in 1620.  Many of these activities are being amended or rescheduled in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The #IlluminateNOW campaign is an extension of Plymouth 400’s annual “Illuminate Thanksgiving” event, which encourages people to “give thanks and give back” to their communities, their country and their world.

Governor William Bradford, founder of Plymouth Colony and a signer of the Mayflower Compact, famously wrote,  “…as one small candle may light a thousand, so the light here kindled hath shone unto many…”  In this spirit, Plymouth 400 holds an annual “One Small Candle” award that recognizes young people who have, like Bradford’s quote evokes, been that one small candle.
