Air Canada today announced a new seasonal summer route between Boston Logan International Airport and Calgary International Airport, running from June 22 to September 7, 2020. The new service adds to Air Canada’s existing service between Boston and Vancouver, Toronto, Montreal, Ottawa and Halifax.
With this announcement, Logan Airport now has direct air service to and from 77 domestic and 57 international destinations, according to Massport.
Canada is the top origin country for international visitors to Massachusetts, says Executive Director Keiko Matsudo Orrall of the Massachusetts Office of Travel & Tourism. In CY 2018, nearly 700,000 Canadians visited the Bay State, spending just under $700 million.
The Boston-Calgary flight will use a mainline Airbus A319 aircraft featuring Business Class and Economy Class cabins. The flight schedule provides excellent connectivity to and from Air Canada’s Western Canada network.

“We welcome Air Canada’s 6th nonstop service to Boston. This new flight to Calgary will connect Boston to another hockey town and one of the largest cities in Canada,” said Massport Aviation Director Ed Freni. “This seasonal service will make it easier for New Englanders to visit the Canadian Rockies and for Western Canadians to explore New England’s rich history in the summer.”
“This flight is meant to connect Western Canada to Boston through Calgary, allowing for non-stop travel to Boston where visitors can enjoy the charms of Massachusetts’ capital and largest city, while visitors to Calgary can take in the city’s culture and make a quick trip to the Rocky Mountains,” says Air Canada’s Vice President of Network Planning Mark Galardo.
Calgary Airport Authority President and CEO Bob Sartor says the “direct flight to Boston will connect Calgary to a vibrant city full of history and diversity. Our guests have long asked for more direct flights to United States’ east coast and we thank Air Canada for adding this exciting route to the gateway of New England.”
In 2018, Canada ranked first in Massachusetts exports at over $3 billion and first in Massachusetts imports at $7+ billion, according to the Executive Director Mark Sullivan of the Massachusetts Office of International Trade & Investment.
Customers travelling to from an international destination through Canada can pre-clear U.S. customs without picking up their baggage if they are connecting, saving significant time on their journey. Canadian customers returning from the U.S. can clear customs in Vancouver, Toronto, Montreal and Calgary without having to collect their bags until they reach their final destination, according to officials.

Boston Logan International Airport is New England’s primary airport and is operated by the Massachusetts Port Authority (Massport). It served 40.9 million passengers in 2018, and has nearly 20,000 full and part-time employees. Worcester Regional Airport has direct service to five domestic destinations, which provide convenient one-stop access to both US and international networks, according to Massport.
