MassBio
The MassBio BioReady Communities Campaign aims to help biotechnology
companies looking to grow in Massachusetts find the right place to do
that. Because of Massachusetts’ rich history in biotechnology, many of
its cities and towns, with the support of state government, have
increasingly adopted local policies that greatly ease the pathway for
renovation or new construction of biotech laboratory and manufacturing
facilities. Expedited permitting policies, by-right zoning, supportive
public infrastructure projects, pre-permitted biotech sites, planned
area developments are examples of the increasingly supportive public
policies in Massachusetts municipalities. The BioReady Communities
Campaign works with cities and towns to best position themselves for
biotech opportunities—then helps match companies with the municipalities
welcoming them.

LTI Smart Glass, Pittsfield
For LTI Smart Glass, whose product line includes privacy and bullet
resistant glass, its business vision was as clear as glass. But, like
many companies lately, it wondered how it might accomplish some of its
business goals. That's where MassDevelopment came in. We issued a $5
million tax-exempt industrial development bond, which was purchased by
TD Bank. That allowed the company to purchase and renovate a vacant
manufacturing building in Pittsfield and buy additional equipment to
help expand its glass and polycarbonate manufacturing. The company
estimates that 82 new jobs will be created. Learn more HERE.
