The Greater Springfield Convention & Visitors Bureau and the Economic Development Council of Western Massachusetts unveiled their new branding identity — West Mass — in Holyoke on February 8, 2017.
Here is what West Mass is about, according to the organizers of the initiative:
“West Mass is a culturally rich, northeastern region characterized by the synergy of three distinct and exceptional counties: Franklin, Hampshire and Hampden. Within 40 miles north to south, it is a rural pioneer frontier and eclectic academia hub and an urban economic center. There is no region more fertile for the creation and fulfillment of ideas and experiences. It’s where things are done for the first time.”

Mary Kay Wydra, president of the Visitors Bureau, told Masslive.com that the word “maverick” is part of the new branding for the region.
“A maverick is someone who is pushing out there to do something first. The city of firsts,” Wydra said. “This campaign is about firsts. Your first visit. Your first time shooting a basket at center court in the Hall of Fame. Your first job. Your new company’s first office at Open Square.”
